I got this same call this morning. I laughed at them, saying I've paid taxes for 20 years. You guys have my address, you can get in touch with me. They said we sent agents with the very sensitive documents but you weren't home. I said you could have sent it via courier, certified mail, etc and I would have responded to the note requiring my signature to receive your ultra sensitive documents. I said listen buddy - you are annoying me with your thick accent(Indian would be my best guess), what time is it over there, go find another sucker to scam and lose my cell number...

I feel so sorry for people who get scammed by these calls. I got a call from 315-351-0124 and the person identified himself as an officer from the IRS so that immediately got my attention, and when he identified me by name and asked if I had a "Criminal Lawyer", he had my undivided attention - but when he started accusing me of not paying taxes, I lost my cool demeanor and told him I have a team of lawyers who would love nothing more than to have a meet and greet with him. I then said hello, hello, are you there officer? To my dismay, he was no longer on the line.

I got a call from this number but did not answer due to not recognizing the number. They left a message claiming there is an action against me and to call back immediately. I went to the IRS website and below is the information regarding this scam.

Most Recent Scams

IRS-Impersonation Telephone Scam

An aggressive and sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, has been making the rounds throughout the country. Callers claim to be employees of the IRS, but are not. These con artists can sound convincing when they call. They use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers. They may know a lot about their targets, and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

Or, victims may be told they have a refund due to try to trick them into sharing private information.

If the phone isn't answered, the scammers often leave an “urgent” callback request.

Note that the IRS will never: 1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill; 2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe; 3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card; 4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone; or 5) threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
