I received a call from this number on my cell. Didn't answer so I was left a message that "stated my physical address was under Federal investigation and to return the call immediately." Caller had a Indian accent.
They called here with the same story, they claimed to be Microsoft calling me. He wanted me run the eventvwr script where he would "help make changes" to my computer. Then he got abusive when I told him I would not run the script prior to googling it. I hung up and he called back 3 more times.
Although it says La Fayette NY - it sounds like someone calling from India.
Unfortunately my mother picked up the phone and then handed it to me. I generally don't answer unknown callers. The say the are calling from "Windows" which we all know is not the company - Microsoft is. Then he said that the computer contacted them to say I had a number of of virus / intrusions to my computer and now he needs to verify my computer ID number. Just for curiosity I listened to him give me a 20+ digit serial number with of course is not mine. He asked me to repeat it back. That's when I stopped him and said not to call again and take us off his list.
I wonder if by repeating something back to them they get a combination of voice patterns that later can obligate me to something. Who knows?
Definitely trying to steal credit card info, etc. I knew right off the bat it was a scam. I messed with the guy a bit and he quickly hung up on me. Jerk Store!
I got a call from this number at 12:09 pm. I just let it ring. Thank God for caller ID. If it was legit, they would leave a message. You have to wonder about the mentality of these people to think that WE are more dumb than they are!!!!
