Got a call today telling me I have a problem with my computer and he is from Microsoft Windows. Hang up on him because I don't think Microsoft will call me if I had a problem, I think I will have to call them instead. It smells fishy. And a scam.
Scam. Said they were from Microsoft windows and that my computer was causing a problem with their system. Want me to log on to my computer. I hung up on them. My sister who is elderly did what they asked her to do and somehow they took control of her computer remotely and said they fixed the problem and told her the cost of fixing it was 75 dollars but he would only charge her 25 dollars if she paid it right then enstead of having a bill sent to her.
Yep. She gave him her credit card number. Her bank call her and said they declined a 2500 charge because it was for an out of Country charge and didn't reflect her normal charges. My Sister told them that she only charged 25 dollars to get her computer fixed. Anyway to make a long story short. The bank took care of everything. Cancelled her card and sent her a new one and gave her a little talking to about not giving out info over the phone.
What I don't understand is how do they know who to call? Is is random? Or do they have a list of elderly or people who they know are trusty?
Anyway, I hope they catch the Son of a...,.,
My Mom is a senior citizen and has been harassed for several days and for hours at a time from this scam number. Please let people become aware of 317-243-2445 and Lori Grider.
