They just called back and left a message this time. It's obviously a criminal scam. The pre-recorded message used a text-to-voice reader to parse a script written in very bad English threatening that, if I did not respond "in the next 24 thousand hours" (which is how I assume the computer interpreted 24:00 hours), I would be "taken into custody by the local [coats?] as there are for serious allegations pressed on your name." I couldn't make out the very beginning but it sounded like they were claiming it was a tax problem. They did tell me to call them back at the very number on the caller ID, so I have generously shared all this information with the government.
SCAM - SCAM - SCAM. The computer generated voice states that they are from the IRS and something to the effect that this is a very serious matter. This is the last time we are going to contact you. They are going to have the authorities come pick me up..., etc.
Called at 12:16 p.m. This is definitely a scam phone message. First part of message was garbled. Claimed to be from the US Treasury and further stated: "Requires your immediate attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate, judge, or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. This is the final attempt to reach you. To resolve this issue immediately and to speak to a federal agent call back this number 317-252-0694. Thank you."
