Yup total scam, I told them I dont have any account with them and the they said oh yes you do, let's check. I said check what I know my own loan status with the orgs. i have loans with and it is not you. He was very rude. Glad to know they are a SCAM!!!
Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m., a woman (whose voice sounded a bit machine-like) called my 75 year old mother and left a voice-mail stating, "(long pause) Hello. This is Heather from Sallie Mae Department of Education Loan Services calling for (Jane Doe). We have important information regarding your education loans. In order for us to continue servicing your account, it is important that we speak to today. Please call us back toll free at your earliest convenience at (800)722-1300".
The caller said my mom's first name in a funny way which made me think they had called the wrong person by mistake. My mother has never taken out a student loan in her life. I called them back about 20 minutes after they left the message to let them know they had the wrong person.
I got an automatic response system stating they were CLOSED but asking me to choose various options, which I did not do. Then, it asked me whether I knew my account number and I said "no". The voice then said, "That's okay, just enter your social security number". I hung up. It seemed like a total scam, and I am glad to find confirmation of that here. Thanks everyone.
They have left me 14 messages today while i am in the hospital i called and said they have a 877 number not a 1800 number then they call back on restricted numbers i told them not to call me again and hung up
