People paying for college with Student Loans are fools. I had no choice but to use them and was 100% lied to by the University I attended. I was told I would have the option of various payment plans, but truth be told, you do not. There are a couple options, but if they do not fit into your budget, you are simply out of luck. After Sallie Mae stuck me in 'default', I had to fight this in court. Guess what? You lose. You cannot argue student loans in court, regardless of what you think or have been told. The court will not necessarily agree with you taking a 25 year repayment plan either. In my case, the court set it up on an 8 year repayment plan, even though my income is not able to handle that. My fight was with the money I had not accepted my Senior year. Sallie Mae had sent my school approximately $12,000, of which I declined as I was working and able to pay myself. That money mysteriously turned up in my loan repayment paperwork and simply because the loan company says they have no record of the money being returned (even though they have no record the check was ever cashed by myself or the university I attended), I am legally obligated to repay the debt. How would you like to have a court side against you when the loan company can verify a check was not cashed? Don't be a fool. Any loan they "claim" you took will have to be repaid, even if you didn't accept it. This is a mafia type service run by crooks and thieves.
I did not answer when they called, then called back from another number. It was an answering machine identifying themselves as "Student Loan Counseling Services" and "please stay on the line for a representative." I hung up.
I received this call at 842 PM while I was in a hospital room with a seriously ill friend. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize. So these clowns can call at any time day or night? There appears to be no stopping this harassment. I get more robo calls on my Android than I ever did on my IPhone.
These guys called and I finally answered. They asked me to verify my info. I told them, they called me therefore they should have it on file and I would not verify anything.
This is, in fact, Student Loan Counseling Services. The reason they are calling you, is because they are trying to assist you in bringing your student loans up to date. They are actually very helpful in giving you your options on repayment, such as temporary hardship forbearances. They are legit, and have called me multiple times in the past. While they're on the phone with you, they get you transferred to the original lender (in my case, MOHELA) and get you brought up to current so you don't get sent to collections. They're not trying to harrass you, they're actually trying to help.
I have gotten a call from this number every day for the past 2 weeks, but they never leave a message. If, in fact they are Student Loan Assistance as some have said, then they are confused. I paid off my one and only student loan in 1970!!
