I've been harassed for weeks by this number and others, all claiming to be calling from the law firm of Christopher, Pierce, and Washington. They claim I wrote a bad check to a grocery store over ten years ago in the amount of $10, and asked for close to $400 in a credit card payment over the phone. They use scare tactics by using phrases such as "check fraud" and "theft by deception" and saying the matter will proceed to county court for litigation. I'm surprised that they continue to call after I've straight up told them that in this day and age of credit card fraud and identity theft, I will not verify any personal information or giver credit card information over the phone. I will be speaking with a state police detective regarding this scam.
We just received the exact same call claiming we wrote a $20 check 13 years ago and they are seeking damages and legal fees for more than $500. If we give them a CC over the phone they will reduce it to $250. Definitely a scam.
I have received the exact same call claiming I wrote a $40.00 check to Winn Dixie over 15 years ago, said they got my information from the CC permit that I applied for. if I give them a Credit card number they will charge 460.00 and they will not take me to court, what a scam, the statue of limitations in Alabama is 2 years on a bad check and many other things that have to go with it. I own a business and have several things I must to in order to collect on a check such as I must report it to the Worthless Check Divison and sent a certified letter to the person that wrote the check within a year. THIS IS A SCAM. Do not give them your credit card information.
I received the same call as Mitch. She said I had a fraudulent check of $40 to Winn Dixie in 2002 and I could settle out of court for $460. She had a lot of my personal information. It is very unsettling. Luckily, I know better than to give my cc number over the phone, especially to a company I had never heard of. Unfortunately, Christina used a lot of legal words and did have access to a lot of personal financial information. I can only imagine how much this company has scammed out of others!
