Caller wanted to see if I qualified for student loan forgiveness. Caller had access to some of my loan information. The rest was I realize was him trying to coax information out of me. When I questioned him his intent, he was very smooth in answering my questions. When I insisted that I was uncomfortable, he asked if I would speak with his supervisor. Supervisor was vague, and I asked that he email me all of the information. He then ended the call abruptly.
All I got was the "goodbye" part too, no message. I was researching student loan information yesterday and updated my phone # on Nelnet which a student loan payment broker. Seems that action has triggered this call.
They were fishing for a "yes" answer from you. All they have to do is record you saying "yes" to any questions (even stupid ones like these ones) to make it seem like you're agreeing to place an order, acknowledge that you owe a debt, etc. Never answer "yes" to a telemarketer or bill collector to any question they ask unless you really want to place an order or acknowledge a debt. Even when they ask, "Is this [your real name]?" answer with "it is" instead of "yes." Never ever say "yes" to these people. Otherwise they'll use that recorded "yes" against you.
