Don't have the option of skipping calls. I get calls generated from cell phones used by various care givers who take care of my out of state parents. I am also very active in my community, in recruiting people to volunteer for projects etc. I don't know half the people who call about helping. The DNC should be dis-banned as it isn't effective (anymore) and costs millions to run. I have to believe the phone companies already have the technology for this to be handled with the press of a code after the first unwanted call.....
Thanks for this post. I knew the calls were annoying but didn't realize it's illegal to call a cell line with this crap. Just filed a complaint....they have called my cell phone incessantly.
That poses a bit of a problem then. If you're in that position, you may have to start keeping track of numbers that cause problems and avoid as best as possible. Hanging up as soon as you know it's a bad call (random charities, bogus IRS and tech support, etc.,) may be the best way to go. As for the DNC list, it works only for what it was meant to. Excluded from the list are crooks, surveys, political calls, fundraising, and debt collection. If you're on the list, it should indicate what you get is not covered. If the phone companies, government, police, etc.,. were able to do more than they could, they would've by now. Getting hit by calls within N. America and overseas are two different stories.
I've gotten several calls from these people. I have them blocked, but they still call I just don't hear it. BTW, don't hit "9" to be removed, that just adds you permanently to their list of active phone numbers and they sell you to others like them. Many of these calls are spoofs from overseas, they are not actually calling from the area code that shows up on your called id. They're criminals, don't talk to them at all!
