The DNC list does not automatically block calls. Instead, it provides a list of "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.
The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations, charities, companies with preexisting business relationships, and some other organizations (such as debt collectors), but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).
The DNC list is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
It can stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.

Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The first thing to do is buy a call blocker device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.
Google "call blocker" for more information.
If you cannot afford or use such a tool, then:
* Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
* Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.
* If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.
Yep, I too just got a call from this number, but .... I DO NOT ANSWER ANY OF THEASE CALLS. (99.9% ARE SCAMS !) But, it is the first call of this sort in the last three days. What's my secret ?
FIRST: I have caller ID so I know what their number is and (as I just stated) IDO NOT ANSWER ANY OF THESE CALLS. Why ? Because when you do all you're doing is to confirm for them that your number is a viable, working number, and... they will continue to call you, plus.... they will sell your number to other scam artists. I had our phone provider provide me with a special ring too so I would know when a "long distance" call came in.
Second: I turned off my answering machine. The caller ID will tell me if a friend has called.
There are some scam artists that call from India pretending that they are workers from Windows and that your PC has contacted them with errors. This particular number is a computer fraud, who, when given control over your computer, will upload a virus to it and then charge you to remove it. (I have heard from $55 to over $500). Our government is WORTHLESS, especially when it comes to blocking these calls, so the Do Not Call list is also worthless. Also, by just pressing 1 or any number they say to remove you from their list is also a scam. It doesn't work either. Your only other course of action is this: Use the steps above. By doing this I have decreased the number of calls I get from upwards of 10 or more a day to sometimes going for 2 or 3 days without any of these calls.
This method will work, but it takes times for them to learn your number doesn't work. Thought for the day: I Wonder what would happen if everyone stopped answering these calls. IF they got no one to answer, then would they just give up and die ?
