Number called at 5am 7:10 am and 8am Christmas Eve morning when I finially answered he said with a thick Indian accent something was wrong with my Microsoft computer i laid into him to many bad words to type here and then hung up on him
They keep calling at like 4:30 A.M. PST. I am thinking of setting up a virtual XP machine just to see what it is they are trying to do. Normally scammers like this offer to 'fix' you computer for a credit card fee. I could see where this scam leads and then just shut down and delete the virtual drive.
Second call from them this week - first one was at 5:20 AM two days ago, and today they called at 4:15 AM. I know that the IRS scammers were busted a month or so ago, so I guess this is the next thing we need to endure. Hopefully they're in someone's crosshairs by now!
It is a spoofed number, and the phone company is not being paid for the number. There are a number of ways to make the the number you are calling from, to read whatever number you want to be displayed on the recipients caller id.
