I started communicating right away with the man who claimed to be the owner of the property. Skepticism about the situation grew immediately after I spoke with the guy over the phone. First, I found out that this person 'Wanda Harris,' was a man and not a woman as the name implies. I also noticed that he wanted me to send the deposit and first months rent by mail because he claimed to be OOT - FOR THE NEXT 6 YEARS. Then, he told me his mailing address was in Columbus, OH. which was fine until I noticed that the guy spoke with a Hatian accent. This lead me dig a little deeper into the sitiation... I found that the number he had been using to communicate with me was a Google phone number and it has a Florida area code. That explained the Hatian accent ordeal.
At that point, I requested to conduct all communications by email, but only as a safety precaution to ensure a crystal clear understanding of what he was asking. I immediately propose a method that protected the both of us in case of any foul play by either party. I haven't heard back from him since then...

We had the exact same thing happen here in Jacksonville Florida. Looking for a home here in our city and just from the first reply back from this person calling himself John Harris..I knew it was a scam. I looked up this phone number and this is what I found is your post and this happened to me yesterday. This is the 2nd time of the same idea. Not sure if its the same person due to different stories. He is a FRAUDULENT CALLER! SCAMMER!!!!
