Consistently get a blind - dial "Unknown Name" with 321-304-9999 as the id.
Pressing any button seems to put me in a queue to talk to someone, but never seems to go thru.
I'm on the do not call list, which would be enforced by the government, excepting that the entire bureau has been gutted by the last administration. Not to worry though... when I find the location...
THIS IS A SCAM. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, tax reduction, gift card, refund, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, insurance, secure handling, processing, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number, or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money. Report to US Postal Service Inspectors https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.
A bogus company who identifies itself as "Credit Card Services" uses the 321-304-9999 number, which is sometimes identifed on Caller ID as Iris Vasquez and sometimes as unknown. These people also use 406-219-2085 and other numbers. Even though you listen to the message and then punch in the number (9, sometimes) to be removed from the caller list that you shouldn't be on in the first place, your number will never be removed. You are simply transferred to a salesperson. When you ask that your number be removed, you will be hung up on or cursed, etc. I know because it's happened to me many times.
Another person had an excellent idea. Why don't we all try this? This person thought that we should listen to the menu and punch in the number to have our phone number removed. Then when the real live salesperson starts talking, just use a very loud whistle, in response.
It is a shame that the DO NOT CALL people are doing absolutely nothing about these con artists!
I got a call and reported it to http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm so if enough of us do that, maybe the FCC will put them out of business. I also set my Blackberry to ring Silent and no vibration.
