Scott Korum (Spelled it out for me) called our pastor who referred him to me...he was very persistent and had an answer for every one of my questions. Before attempting to wire money, I prayed that if wasn't legit, God would stop it from going through. The wire transfer could not be completed because of verification issues. I called him back and told him I couldn't help him, he became very distressed, put his "wife", Maryanne, on the phone for a few minutes to tell me how disappointed they were that they couldn't go home...and how they had recently been converted and prayed and read their Bible every day. I decided to try one more thing...I called Greyhound and they told me that the bus didn't even stop in Fern Park, Fl. I called him back, told him there was too much information that I could not verify and that he should go to the local police station, they would connect him with someone who could help...He hung up on me!! I should have checked him out online first!!
The caller wants money to be wired to him for travel. Claims his mother died in a DWI and his car broke down while at the funeral. Said he visited our church with his two little girls recently. Gave the address of a home that is for sale in our town. Could not give any details about the accident. Used the name Scott Corn, said his mother was Ann Corn.
Thanks for this website --- I just got called - but the story is identical to the following -- in connection with the phone #407-953-0357: The same man, but by the name Scott Koren, wife named Maryann called our church at 12:45pm and said that his Mother was killed by a drunk driver and said that he was stranded in Winter Springs, FL. He told me that his car, '91 Olds, had blown a rod and he needed ticket money for Greyhound to get him and his family home from Florida. He claims that he visited our church weeks ago and has 2 small daughters, ages 3 & 4 named Jessica and Denise. BEWARE.
The same man, by the name Scott Koren, wife named Maryann called our parsonage at 11:30pm this evening and said that his Mother was killed by a drunk driver and said that he was stranded in Winter Springs, FL. He told me that his car, '91 Olds, had blown a rod and he needed ticket money for Greyhound to get him and his family home from Florida. He claims that he visited our church weeks ago and has 2 small daughters, ages 3 & 4 named Jessica and Denise. Have confirmed on this website that the same man with the same story was reported way back on Jan 16, 2009. Guess his mother has died twice at the hands of drunk drivers.
We also got a call from Scott Woren (321-442-4206) at our church with the same story- when a few of us called him back on Monday he related the same story assuming we were answering messages he left for us at our church. He did not even recognize my accented voice - obviously is working a number of churches at the same time. Good idea to report scam to Attorney General in FL and your home state as well as Western Union (1-800-448-1492) who will flag his name and force him to get a new state issued ID in order to claim his ill-gotten gains. I also reported him to the police in Ocoee FL - let's turn up the heat on this low life.
