sound like a scam. they call themselves auto warranty company. when i asked who they were representing, the call hung up. funny, i don't even have warranty with them. there is no info on the company, or other phone # to reach them, sounds like a shady deal from fl, like the ballot chads from the last election.
I wouldn't be too quick to condemn Mr. MacAulay (or his address). Call centers using their own trunk lines and especially internet phone customers somehow have the ability to put whatever they want in the caller ID name and number -- including nothing. I don't know how they do it, but apparently it's not that difficult. I think this number was probably stolen or just made up and is being inserted by whomever the real caller is. The fact that calling the number back results in a "number no longer in service" message would sort of confirm that along with identical calls coming from different numbers. The "press 1 to lower your interest rate calls" and the auto warranty calls SEEM to be coming from the same bunch of pseudo fraudsters and they do not seem to have any information on either the credit cards or autos owned by those they call -- they are just making massive blind calls and trying to get that information from whomever answers the phone. It seems to me the solution would be for the phone companies to enhance their technology and tighten their customer acceptance criteria in order to prevent telemarketing calls with no caller ID or bogus caller ID information from going through the phone system and at least make it easier for law enforcement to track the jerks down. I talked to my phone company about this and was told they were considering upgrading equipment to prevent this sort of thing in the future but couldn't do it at this time. If it were my choice, I would much rather have phone number integrity and privacy rather than phone number portability and I think we've spent a bunch of money on portability -- at least they charge me for it every month. Maybe there needs to be some government prodding to move the phone companies along. Actually, I like the duct tape and baseball bat approach mentioned by a poster above; but, how do you find the guilty in order to deliver the justice?
The DNC(Do Not Call) list is just another smoke & mirrors, useless law from our corrupt elected officials. Maybe everyone should forward their phones for a day to their state and federal representatives. Maybe something would get done then! The prosecution rate of violators by state & federal authorities, which is less then 1% of the complaints, is just additional proof of the scam played on the people.
They've been calling me numerous times during hours that I am away at work. I have tried calling the number back and always get "Your call cannot be completed as dialed". I Googled National Auto Warranty and found this: If you are trying to contact National Auto Warranty Service, Inc. regarding its telemarketing practices or an extended warranty purchased from that company, please use the following contact information below:
National Auto Warranty Service, Inc.

800-649-1856 is the number listed, which I called and of course they are only open 8-5 M-F at that number.
