I am a bankruptcy attorney is Southern California. One of my clients received a phone call from this number and the person claimed to be an attorney with the Riverside Criminal Defense Attorney's office...from an phone number and office on Los Angeles. This is clearly a scam and probably from and overseas call room.
I am posting this on all sites regarding this number:
I was told that if I did not call back regarding this serious matter, then 'good luck to me' I called the number after reading these posts, and was first told that they had no record of my number, then looked it up by my name. They have my name, address, e-mail address, and ssn. The man told me that I had a criminal case against me, and that a 'Legal officer would be serving me documents at my home and place of employment. (They had my PO box). I stated that I DID NOT have a criminal case against me, and could he please tell me what he was talking about it. He said "What?! Oh my god! You have not been briefed about this case?!! I will go ahead and read this affidavit to you..." I said that I didn't believe a word that he said and that I would be reporting him to the 'authorities' And if there were such a case against me to go ahead and forward all of the info/affidavit to my e-mail since he had the address, and I hung up on him.
Here is the thing that worries me most: This week I tried getting a Payday loan from an online service, and it said that my SSN was already in use at that site. Assuming maybe I had visited that site before, (which I never have) I then tried logging in with my e-mail and usual password. It said that e-mail was not registered at this site. This means that someone else was using my SSN for a loan, and I cannot find any info on it. I tried contacting that company via e-mail regarding possible fraud and have not yet heard back. These two issues may be related.
I suggest that everyone receiving these calls get a copy of their credit reports immediately!
THIS NUMBER CALLED ME YESTERDAY, UNAVAILIABLE, LEFT A MESSAGE AND WHEN I RETURNED IT THE PERSON ON THE OTHER END HAD A VERY THICK ACCENT AND CLAIMED TO BE FROM SOME TYPE OF CYBERCRIME INVESTIGATION (SOMETHING OR OTHER) CLAIMING THAT I HAD AN UNPAID 'PAYDAY LOAN' FROM 2008 THAT I DID NOT PAY BACK AND THAT THERE WAS A WARRANT FOR MY ARREST, BUT THAT I WANTED TO TAKE CARE OF THE MATTER OVER THE PHONE RIGHT THEN ALL I HAD TO DO WAS PAY THE 300 DOLLARS THAT I OWED. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HUNG UP ON HIM!!!!....I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS VERY RUDE, BROKEN-ENGLISH INDIVIDUAL WAS TALKING ABOUT, BUT SOME HOW HE HAD MY SS#, WHICH SCARED THE [***] OUT OF ME!!! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO FROM NOW ON. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Someone called me from this number and left a message on the answering machine saying that I need to call him back regarding a criminal case, he stated he was a criminal defense attorney on the message and that I needed to return his call right away and to not ignore his message. He said if I do not call him back right away that he wishes me the best of luck with my case. He had a thick accent as well and when I tried to call the number back it would not go through. The message was very rude and disturbing, I can't believe someone would call and leave a message like that on someone answering machine...the number came up unavailable on the caller id as well
