I've spoken to Alex two times since yesterday, and so far he has not asked for any information that I am not comfortable with sharing--just the basic stuff (i.e. household income and rough monthly expenses). However, he has recommended that I proceed with a free consultation with the Resource Law Group. No money...no personal info...yet. I am willing to see where this goes. I called 888-995-HOPE to see if I could verify that this was not a scam, but the woman who I spoke with was useless. I will share what I learn. Alex is going to call me back momentarily.
I received a postcard from an unknown agency that claimed they could drop my mortgage from 5% to 2%. I called their 877-499-2228 to learn more. I learn the agent is Brennan Bible who is with the Relief network. he is saying that he is able to network with a number of non-profit and government organizations to reduce my mortgage payment to $1280 a month. he is calling back tomorrow with the various ways he can get Bank of America to reduce my mortgage to $1280. he states he will call back tomorrow. has anyone had experience with this company or can provide insight into their background.

Alex called back and tried to persuade me to hire an attorney for a one time fee of about $3500. They are either a scam or a sales funnel for attorneys. Same thing? :) The guy Alex seemed very knowledgeable, but was ultimately a sales person with a pitch. If I want an attorney, I will find one locally. Ultimately, I went to http://www.makinghomeaffordable.gov and spoke to a FREE counselor who is assisting with the loan modification with my lender. My advice: work with your lender directly and seek help when you need it.
Its a scam steer clear we were lucky enough to put a stop payment on our bank account and get our modification through our own due dilegence of talkig to the bank we only save 200 to 300 off our mortgage.
