SCAM:
I get a call from 323-786-8456 from someone saying they are from the "Legal Department of US Treasury and I am in a very important legal matter with them"
I laugh, I call back, and the following hilarity ensues....
Man (heavy Indian accent): Thank you for calling the Legal Department of US Treasury, what phone number did you get a call to?
Me: (Different number than what they called)
Scammy: We can't find that number, are you sure that's not a cell phone number?
Me: No it's my house phone (it wasn't! I lied...oooops!)
Scammy: We are calling you about an important legal matter, and wanted your lawyers information
Me: How come you don't have an 800 number?
Scammy: This is my direct line
Me: Oh that's cool, I don't have a lawyer
Scammy: What?! You mean to say you didn't get from 2CAB05 from us?
Me: Ugh no, and I am oh so scared about this, can I just give you my social and checking acct number?
Scammy: (confused silence)
Me: Well before I do, what's your agent ID?
Scammy: 2CA110p4
Me: Let me look into this, you know, because sometimes people call to scam us?
Scammy: I understand
Then I call back (in literally 2 seconds)
Scammy (now Indian woman): Thank you for calling the US Dept of Treasury
Me: Hi! I am just calling back, I thought this was Dwains direct line
Scammy (now Indian woman): he just stepped out
Me: Ohhh can you go get him and tell him his agent ID doesn't check out and I need him to scam me right now?
Scammy- hangs up
Me: call back, they hear my voice, they hang up
Me: call back, they hangup
(I am now REALLLLY concerned about why we keep getting disconnected and my important legal matter, so I call from a different number ;) )
They answer, hear my voice, and hang up
Then it goes on vm, I leave a message saying "I am concerned about my legal matter and need to get scammed immediately, whyyyy are you ignoring me! Why doesn't anyone love me?! Please call me Dwain, I miss you"
They don't pick up my calls anymore, but if you get a call from them please call them and mess with these people, maybe these call centers won't be profitable businesses for foreigners to take advantage of people. Please take a second and just make one call to these a**holes, and together as the internet we can break these guys down.
