To those of you defending the employees of this company, this is about the fact that they refuse to remove one's number from their list. Despite repeated requests. And they are telemarketers. Period.
They're just fundraising. The easiest (and most rational and mature) way to get calls to stop is to answer one of them and ask the representative (politely) to stop calling you. He or she will probably attempt to convince you of the importance of your donation. That is their job. It's a lousy job, too, and not rewarding. You do not need to get angry at these poor, underpaid people, or give them a lecture about how you're on the Do Not Call list, or don't appreciate your meals being interrupted, or that they've called you too late. They would much rather be at home enjoying a meal, too. Just politely decline and hang up.
Some clients who do telephone survey research require that people who have already declined once be called back, and an effort be made to convert or convince them. Again, the people who are actually calling you are NOT the people who decide whether you should be called back, nor are they the people that decide when or how often to call you. Again, be polite, say "No, thank you," and hang up the phone.
Although it can be annoying to see a number you don't recognize frequently showing up on your caller ID, it's not a very big deal, either.
Also remember that telemarketers are different from non-profit fundraising or survey research (which is frequently conducted by the government in order to gather data to inform public policy). Be sure you know who you are hanging up on, and -- I can't emphasize this enough -- be polite.
This number did call back after my comment here. I asked that my ph# be removed. He said he would do so and apparently did it right then. Hopefully, this will work.
This man just called - Asked for my husband by name - Said he was with some veterans group - I said my husband wasn't home - The ignorant SOB just hung up - 323 871 9684 was the number - Can't STAND this kind of thing.
