Individual with heavy accent asked me if I had intentionally downloaded malware. (further annoying conversation ensued at this point with regard to downloading information, etc.) At this juncture I let him know that my 'caller ID' showed "Unknown Caller"! I asked that if he were representing Microsoft why didn't my caller-ID show that. Then told me that he was calling from the Microsoft headquarters. Really? My daughter used to work for Microsoft. I took the number and looked it up. Bogus.
got a call from 23-456-7890 saying they were with Microsoft and they had gotten reports someone was trying to hack our network. I asked for a call back number, they gave me 323.973.7720. They then told me they got reports someone was trying to hack my windows 10 computer, I asked which one and they said the windows 10 one. I told them I have two windows 10 computers, then they said it was the network that was being hacked. They asked me to login on my computer and I told them I would call them back because this didn't seem right. I looked the Number up online and its a hack. I called Microsoft and reported it to them. While I was waiting for Microsoft to call me back. The "scam" company called me back wondering why I hadn't called them. I told them I called Microsoft and I didn't think they were legit or with Microsoft. The caller said he was not with Microsoft, but a company Microsoft outsources these issues to. I ended up hanging up on them. The real Microsoft called me back and let me know, they will not contact a customer first. The customer has to contact them first, then they will call the customer back.
Caller called representing Microsoft with a phone #323 973 7720. He had an eastern accent. I caught a virus while researching a particular subject on my computer. He said he could fix it for 249.00.
