I received TWO calls from this number of which both were asking me if I received my magazines I ordered (which I did order about 11 magazines over the past 4 months).  However, the first call I asked her which magazines she was referring to & she couldn't tell me anything because that's info only her supervisor has.  I told her if she can't give me the names, I can't tell her if I received them.  I ended up hanging up.  The second time I was called, they asked me the same question, I gave the same response, but this time I decided to play along w/ them to see what happened.  She asked me which 2 magazines I liked the best (because she couldn't tell me which magazines I ordered, just like the first call) & I told her Gardens & Guns.  She then told me there was a fraudulent company calling their customers & wanted to know if I received a call from that company, I told her I had.  So, she then told me they'd offer me compensation for the phone call & she'll transfer me to her supervisor.  The supervisor came on the line & told me she'd like to give me a $10 discount applied to my account, but she needed my debit or credit card of which I paid for the subscription.  I told her I used a credit card.  She then asked me for the type, which I said was Visa & asked for the numbers starting w/ the number 4.  DUH!  Common knowledge all Visa's start w/ the #4.  I told her I'm not giving you my card number.  She then promptly hung up on me.  And they wanted to compensate me for receiving phone calls from a fraudulent company???  How's that for the pot calling the kettle black!!

"And they wanted to compensate me for receiving phone calls from a fraudulent company?"

No, that is the patter used to persuade you to give your credit card number to them so they can make fraudulent charges to the card numuber. Their goal is to get the card number, everything else is a lie.

Magazine companies use third parties to handle their subscriptions, and those third parties are marketing companies that maintain massive databases to try to figure out what they can persuade you to buy. There is or was someone in one of those third parties stealing information to give to scammers.

guy called apologizing for any fraud calls regarding their magazines.  Never gave company name. Wanted to provide a security code in case there was other fraudulent calls. I don't get magazines. Guys said that it wouldn't apply to me and that he would clear my name out of the data base, and hung up.
