Called trying to reach an exec that hasn't worked here in over 5 years. When I advised him of this he became belligerent and used some pretty colorful language against my sex and threatened to harm me.
Whatever.
He called back and I asked a male co-worker to answer as the caller has some issues with women it appears.
The verbal abuse he laid down on my male co-worker seems to re-define this caller as mentally unstable and violent.
He know just calls back and hangs up up over and over and over...
My 86 year old father was contacted by this number wanting him to renew his Smithsonian Magazine. He can't hear and asked her to call me, his daughter to which she had the gall to do today. I told her he had NEVER had the Smithsonian magazine and he was on the Do Not Call Registry. She hung up on me before I could say anymore.
This number shows up on my Caller ID as Snyder TX. After the first three calls (all within about one hour), I picked up the phone since ignoring the call obviously did no good. They told me their company name was Synergy. The call was related to a magazine I subscribe to and they told me that the magazine's subscription rates would soon be going up to $30 a year but they could offer me a renewal rate of $20 a year for a three year subscription. I found an insert in the magazine itself that says I can renew for $16 a year so I doubt the magazine is almost doubling its rates. Synergy is probably connected to the magazine since I do subscribe to that magazine. They tried to get me to renew on the phone by credit card and when I said I only pay by mail they tried to get me to pay by check over the phone. I finally got rid of them by claiming that I am slow of mind and only handle financial matters when I have someone with me to help me, so they agreed to send me a bill by mail which they said will come from a California address. They were aggressive and persistent. I have emailed the actual magazine website for more information and will post an update if I get useful info from them.
FYI - I live in Texas and most of my spam calls show up as a town or city in Texas and with no other information such as company or person's name.
This has happened to me and was a scam. The Smithsonian probably had this company or another do renewals and your info was sold on the black market. The people then call trying to get your credit card or banking information. Good job on having them send the bill. I would only respond to something official from the Smithsonian or one of the insert cards from the magazine.
Yeah, Synergy Subscriptions works with magazine companies to call up their subscribers and get them to renew. Synergy gets a cut if they renew through them. It saves the companies money that they would normally have to spend to mail you a renewal notice (or three). I dealt with them in the past, until I realized I was being overcharged. Now I deal with the magazines directly.
