Called yesterday. Caller ID reads: Directory Assistance Illinois. This is happening a lot lately - directory assistance numbers from various states appearing on screen. These are obviously spoofed; directory assistance services don't make calls, only receive them. Another appeared today, this time with the commonly-observed string of code numbers on the Caller ID: V303051502000019. I assume that is the computer spoof code revealing itself. The number was 707-555-0155. Directory assistance services universally have the 555 prefix.
Congress needs to act. The best way to put an end to this outrage is to hold telephone carriers financially liable for all spam on their networks.
Just got a call from an Indian woman telling me she was from Windows (not even Microsoft) and that there was a virus on my computer.I have had this exact scam tried on me before and asked I always ask them questions like... How did you have my home number when my windows is registered with my cell phone number? They ignore everything you say and keep trying to scare you into believing them until you are forced to hang up on them!
