Call came 7/22/14 from IL ~4:45PM to Texas. Did not answer unfamiliar #, but looked this up. Obviously scam preying on Latin names--haha! My name not Latin but only uncommon -- wants wired funds:(
Someone called from this #. Saying they were my cousin and they were coming from Mexico to buy a truck. They the next day they called and said they were in a car accident. I told them I did not understand what they were saying and the hung up.
Me: "Who is this?"
....
Me: "You have the wrong number"
The man hung up.
I sincerely thought it was a wong number until I saw the other posts here.
It's an Illinois number. Might be a prank call or someone may be trying to con people.
I just hung up from this same call. He called and said he was my cousin from Mexico. He never asked me for anything but seemed to prolong the conversation. I don't know if he wanted to get information from me. He kept laughing and joking with me. The line cut off before I could get to the bottom of this.
I don't get the con though. No one seems to know who he is and no one should be giving this guy money. I'm concerned about any type of hacking job that can be done by keeping you on the line or just simply having answered the phone.
I'm reporting this guy to the Illinois Attorney General.
I'm in Texas.
