My aunt received a similar call saying that it was me and that that I was in a wreck and needed money. My aunt was scared and sent money. After looking up the number she gave me I found these notes. Need to try and report these people.
Same trick. Guy pretended to be my cousin & said he was in a car wreck and he hurt a little girl, the other person would not call the police if he gave him $4000 in cash. They were told we had no $. They called a second cousin and told him they wanted $1800 but NOW.
They got nothing. 1st call was from 331-974-8786, second call was the same #, but with a (52) before the 331.
I missed three calls in on hour on my cell today. All were from the same number in Illinois, 331-974-8786. I didn't know the number, so googled it. I got this link, describing the "cousin scam." Wonder how these scammers got my name and number? Perhaps they have purchased cell phone data on residents in Houston?
