My caller i d said Auburn University. I answered the phone because my son is in Auburn making a career out of being a student. It was some guy wanting a donation for Alabama State Troopers and would give me a sticker for my car if I gave him a donation. I told him "No thanks". I don't make donations over the phone.

I answered the call because I saw that it has a 334 area code and being retired from the state It may be important. The caller stated that it was collecting money for The Alabama State Troopers organization to help with a list of things. I listened to the spill and over the phone I agreed to pay $15.00 plus an additional $2.00 to pay for mailing costs and then like most organizations wanted my credit card information over the phone, screech ( that's the sound in my head slamming on the brakes). I politely said to mail me the information and I asked her to repeat my name and address to make sure that it was correct. And she did but also said that we accept PayPal and some other methods that I wasn't trying to hear. I said again just mail me the information.
As soon as I hung up I researched the phone number and Google search the organization. What I learned that it's not accepted as a charitable organization because it didn't meet the requirements 501(B) and that most of the money doesn't go to the organization but to the paid telemarketers and the CEO. So please check out any organization that raises money.
