i received a call from this number and someone asked if my name was "John Doe" but used my real name, then disconnected. i returned the call only to find out 336-217-5409 is not a working number. whats up with this.

336-217-5409 belongs to Time Warner. I suspect, being in IT and having spent some time in Telecom, that it is a "masked" number so as to prevent calling back into their call center - or it is only good for out-bound calls. Most likely, one of their own Digital Phone numbers which they can control what is sent to your Caller ID unit.
This is Time-Warner's Collections department trying to collect on a past due bill.
It is a number for Time Warner. My spouse works in the IT Dept. here in the school system and is in chrge of the network. They call him regularly when we have an Internet outage. Nothing to worry about.
Also, just tonight we had a big thunderstorm in our area and several of our school sites Internet went down. TWC always calls within minutes to notify him about it so he can address the problems.
