Claiming to be Steve Martin with the Department of the Treasury, he (a taped message) insisted I return this call at this number (338-738-3115) or will face criminal charges by a federal magistrate. He had an accent, not American, but I was unable to pinpoint what that accent was. I wrote down as much as I could remember and ran the phone number through Google (AARP's suggestion) and found you.
Caller said they were from US Treasury and that we made a mistake filing previous years taxes. Said that unless we sent them a check today, that we would be immediately arrested. Called and informed local police department, and they were already aware of this scam.
David (with a thick accent) said he was from the IRS and that I had made mistake on my 2012 filing. The connection was bad, and he was very hard to understand. I told him that I would not discuss matters such as this on the phone and that he needed to send me the proper paperwork by mail for me to review.
Just got a voicemail and when I called got the same thing. Said they were from U.S. Treasury. Said I had made a mistake on 2012 taxes. Gave his name as "David" and threatened arrest if I did not pay. I kept asking him if I could speak to someone who could speak better English and he finally hung up.
This call came in yesterday and twice so far this am...said they are from IRS...I hung up...so sick of people calling trying to get information...foreign voice on the other end also
Foreign guy called my mom saying she would be arrested if she didn't pay back taxes. My mom and Dad haven't worked in over 10 years....so they don't file any taxes!!!
