This is how a lot of debt collectors operate. By law they cannot discuss the debt with anyone but the alleged debtor without permission and most even refuse to say they are attempting to collect a debt although the law does allow that disclosure. If you have any past due debt on your credit report, contact that creditor to see who is handling it and deal only with that company. If you have no old debts, ignore the call and report it to the FTC and your state Attorney General.
