It's a call on behalf of some charity asking for donations to help buy children in the foster care system (or something like that) Christmas presents. She actually requested to mail me something and could they count on a donation--so it's probably legit as she didn't want my payment info over the phone.
I'm sure like everywhere they are using a call center to make the calls and again like all call centers a computer dials then transfers to an available person when you say hello. Thus we say hello, hello, hello before someone comes on the line. If the system can't get a person fast enough it just hangs up. Rude design but that's life. I didn't have money to give and they were very polite and asked that I keep them in mind next year.
