Simple answer. If they ask you to send ANY money to them upfront (Western Union, GreenDot), or ask for ANY personal, or financial information. It's a fake. This applies for just about anything. (IE: You won a prize, pay for shipping. You got a loan, send us $500. first., etc.). Also if you get a phone call like this from area code 876, it's Jamaica.

Keep getting scam calls from different numbers saying i won a sweepstakes...t least 2 calls a day..getting tired of this!! I don't even pick up anymore..peter Blake leaves messages saying i won something and should call him back....i have never fallen fior any of this..i have told them to stop calling me or I will call the police
just recieved a call in forming me that I won a cash prize now I need to do is send $500.00 cash to recieve my prize caller also warned me about sweepstake scams these people must think were all stupid !
