This is a scam. They will tell you that you can settle with them to keep them from pressing charges. Do NOT send them money. Call the Federal Trade Commission if you receive a call from this number and report them.
Received scam calls from several numbers, including: 347-926-7329, 347-378-7095, and 347-289-5000. All calls were from the same people who purported to work on behalf of "National Credit Agency" - which they told me is an umbrella corporation that covers "78 websites" related to payday loans and unsecured debt. National Credit Agency oversees the banking transactions of these websites. They informed me that I had defaulted on a loan for $1995.36 in 2011 or 2012, and that current penalties put the amount due at $5484.87. They were calling as a courtesy to inform me that a law suit would be executed in my state "tomorrow" and that charges would be filed. They were very convincing because they did not directly state they wanted money - they offered as a sly suggestion they could call their client if I provided them some reason or "something in hand" to convince the client not to execute the lawsuit. I had to press them for details and their "case" quickly fell apart. Don't believe these crooks or give them any money! There is more info below if anyone who reads this is not convinced it's a scam.
They stated they would file the following charges:
Violation of federal banking regulations
Collateral check fraud
Theft by deception
These are criminal charges and they would need to be filed by the state attorney or locality's DA. They would not be filed by a 3rd party. Also, any reputable litigation attorney would never warn the defendant or it's counsel that they were about to file an initial motion, especially for anything regarding money. I initially spoke to a woman named Jessica, who said she was a paralegal. She transferred me to James Green who is supposed to be a licensed attorney in New York state, working out of Brooklyn. He would not give me his registration number and both the people I spoke to had thick Indian accents. They could verify the last 4 digits of my SSN, an address from 7 years ago, and the last 4 digits of my checking account... and nothing more. Beware.
yeah I got a phone call like 2 weeks ago and I first I got a call from a woman named Joy from Jacksonville Florida saying I have a debt from national credit agency and then turning it over to a collection department and she didn't go into details about anything but said I owed money back and when I'm going to pay them and I said well until I see something in writing I will not do anything about this so she helped me on hold she transferred me over to change screen which is in Brooklyn New York his name is James Green sounds Indian to me didn't sound like he is American at all and he's telling threatening me and telling me you can help me at all kinds of problems and tell me I owe so much money $5,007 plus she says they want to settle for like 1500 out of court cost and if I can send the payment today and 250 they did get it started and I was a sucker I end up sending him 2:50 actually called me back today and it says I have another 2:50 where's our money I never called him back or anything and all he wanted was a money order you want anything else that's why I noticed something wrong here I ain't even going to answer the phone or if I do I'm just going to tell him if you don't have anything in writing I don't want anything to do with this so scare me again hang up cuz I don't believe in this stuff they wanted me to send the money to Winterville Georgia to some post office which I did do I feel bad I sent 250.00 and I looked up the number just now I had a woman I spoke to at the to where this address is located at the post office and she told me it was a post office box at this place so therefore I found out this is bogus he scammed me he's trying to get more out of me and it could happen what's going to happen to you these people sound professional but they're not showing anything in writing anyway just be safe and God bless
