Be very carefule everyone! This sounds like a scam that has been running for a few years now. There is a group of middle eastern scam artists that are targeting former payday loan applicants. They call and say they have defrauded on a loan (which was never taken out) and are aboput to be charged with all sorts of crimes. They have stolen peoples information and are using fear tactics to extort money. They are betting on the fact that psopls who haver applied for a payday loan do not have much money, and certainly do not have a lawyer on retainer. They also take advantage of people who do not know thier rights. Read the post by "the saint" under the number 707-633-0002 on this site.
Eva - did they call your employer or send a written notice - I am asking because you may have been a victim of a scam. Did the person have a middle eastern accent and say you were being charged with things like deception, bank fraud and that they were going to sedn you to jail (they cannot send you to jail) Also - while bill collecotrs may contact your employer to find you - they may NOT give out any personal information - which is what it sounds like these people did. They contact employers and say people are involved in a leagal case and about to be arrested to try to scare you into paying. Please read the post by "the saint" under the number 707-633-0002 on this site. If you have been a victim of this scam - call your bank and see if you can reverse the transaction. Also report ant calls and any other informtaiotn you have to your state attorney genral and www.ic3.gov.
