Today I received a phone call from a Jack Fernandez claiming to be a Microsoft employee who urged me to turn on my computer and give him information.. He was speaking in an unclear language and i asked him to repeat himself several times.. After his rudeness i hung up on him.. He then called back and asked why i had hung up on him. he was even more urgent for me to turn the computer on and give him personal information. He was claiming that my computer was infected with thousands of malware programs. I demanded to speak with his supervisor and he said that there was none available to take my call. I then asked him for a number to verify this was not a scam..He gave me the following numbers.. 347-321-8983 and 505-908-9506.. After a Google search it landed me on this page..
a call from Shane from Microsoft, speaking in a broken English, warning me that my computer is sending them a series of warning signals and that he would help me fix it. Like many before me, I was given the 347-321-8983.
Knew my name and obviously had my phone number. at first I was surprised by the responsive service; after all, I can't even get my doctor to call me back. but when my computer has malware, they are right on it. then, after a moment, I realized that I have never registered any microsoft products that required my phone number and am not currently using anything like Word or Office and there is no way they would know I exist
Just got a call from "Bruno Marrs" regarding my computer. They said they were receiving error messages via their server, and my computer was being infected more and more each minute. He wanted me to run a program on my computer. I asked to speak with a supervisor. So "Peter" came on the line. I told them I was very suspicious. They did not know my name, but said they knew my computer ID #. We never got that far. I asked for his return number. He gave me this number: 347-321-8983. His ID# was TPR 28451. VERY heavy accent, very hard to understand. When I called them back, it was an answering machine. Nothing about being from "Windows Service Center". Be leary of them!
