Thick Indian accent with broken connection. Said he was with the IRS and to hold the line to speak with his supervisor. I hung up and blocked the number. Obvious scam
I received a call from someone with a broken accent, saying he was from the attorney general's office. I asked what is this about and he hung up on me. I live in Florida.
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
I just rec'vd this phone call also, stating they were from the US Atty Generals office, with a legal complaint on my my name and SS#, gave me a case #RD531. Saying I had a loan with a company Cash Adv Dealer Svcs for $600 and needed to be paid immediately, they wanted $820 dollars pd immediately and was I able to make the pmt today. I told them I never took the loan and wasn't going to pay it. He, foreign accent, (named Michael Jones even), got angry and said I was in jeapordy of violating US law and would be held liable for the payment. I stated NO is wasn't going to pay it and he hung up on me.
