Here's how you can spot a fake RV seller:
- The phone number is out of the area or out of state.
- The number is printed on the photo of the RV - and it's not the number of an established RV dealer.
- There are random symbols, words, spaces, or punctuation in the subject line (for example: "[[]]✰[[]]1997[[]]✰[[]] Coachmen Mirada 300QB[[]]✰[[]]" or " l989 C0ach m e n Cat@1ina") or alternating capital/lowercase ("1992 AiRsTrEaM ExCeLlA"). The scammers do this to evade craigslist's spam filters, since they post in many cities at once. Legitimate sellers don't usually do this.
- The price is too low or unrealistic (for instance, $2000 for an RV less than 10 years old).
- They want you to text instead of call.
- They want you to use eBay, Paypal, Amazon or iTunes. Or they will send a link to a fake Paypal or eBay page. They will claim that a nonexistent "shipper" will drive the nonexistent RV to you.
Bottom line: NEVER pay for a vehicle you cannot see and inspect in person (RV, car, truck, camper, boat, motorcycle)! Ask for their address so you can see the vehicle. If they won't give it to you, they are scammers.
