My family received the same call from the same number. They said a family member had been seriously hurt in an accident. I didn't pick up the call, but my daughter did.
My daughter just called and said someone called her husband saying he was an in accident and tried to flee the crime, she called to ask me about her brother because her husbands brother's are fine. Thank God for this site because, I immediately googled the phone number. All I can say is you reap what you sow and whoever this person is, nothing good will come to him.
I had a huge amount of fun with this as I was already aware of this type of scam and I don't have a brother.
A Spanish male called me from this number claiming that he had one of my brothers hostage after a car accident took place. He asked me to confirm my brothers name so I made up "Jim" to keep the joke going.
Male said my brother was asked not to call the police and that when my brother tried any way that the other guy in the car was a gang member and he hit him with the gun and that my brother was in bad shape. The guy said the damage done to the vehicle was $5,000 in repair and that if I wanted my brother to be release safely I would have to give him $1,500.
I was laying on the beach in NJ when the caller rang my wife's phone number first. She ignored it as she didn't recognize the number. I took the call and played along.
While many people were listening/watching me have this conversation with this idiot, I totally freaked them out. I told him I wasn't paying a dime for my "brother" as he was a bum who owed me a lot of money. The guy told me he would be shot if I didn't comply. I then started yelling to him to shoot him. Go ahead and kill the bum! It wasn't my problem.
It was hilarious to see the looks on peoples faces. They were relieved when I told them what was going on when I hung up. ROFLMAO!
