Thanks for posting this, you just answered my question. I too am investigating a Craigslist reply to an item for sale. Suspicious since I am in Indiana and the area code is NYC. Person wants to 'buy it for her son'.
I think I will reply to these by saying make the check payable to John E Hoover and give them the phone number and address of the local FBI field office. Could be fun.
Received reply to my Craigslist post. "Lisa" said she was purchasing for her son. She said she was hearing impaired so would prefer to transact through email or text, but preferred email. Her next email said she would need to send me a check for cost of item & shipping cost because she was going through surgery soon. If I accepted, and once the check cleared, she would have the movers come & pickup everything. I initially thought to have her send me a cashiers check and for her to pay the movers herself, but still didn't feel right. Glad my gut was telling me not to do it. Looks like she's done this before.
