call but no message left. I have a college age child. How do they get our numbers? Have they broken into the California state schools application site?
If you don't have school-age children who might have put their home number down during testing, it could have been a prank in itself where someone else put your number down or it was given to them by mistake. They can bypass the DNC because every number they call is submitted to them, usually on a form. They are trying to finance students to go to one of their client colleges.
This number is a college recruiting agency and they don't normally call from the actual city of the school(s) they represent. They are a type of private college financing, fund-raising and recruiting business.
These people called me twice this evening because my teenage son said "Yes, I'd be interested in going to college in [x] Hawaii [X] Oregon [X] Washington" during some college prep testing at his high school. However, I am not interested in sending my son to any of those places so he can pay for it himself or go here, locally.
Our kids are overriding our DNC listing by "inviting" them to call. (sort of like inviting vampires into your home)
I have received a call every night for the past three nights around the same time as you (8-9ish) from either "unknown" numbers or from states across the country from me... It is really starting to disturb me so I'm just blocking everything and looking up information. Good to know I'm not the only one receiving these strange calls at strange times!
They called me a couple of weeks ago with the whole college thing. Interestingly, today the same number called me from the "US department of treasury" and said legal action is being taken against me. I told him that he was a silly scammer. He said it was not a scam, and told me not to worry. I told him I wasn't worried in the slightest, and he hung up on me.
