I received the same message on answering machine from a Nelson Carter. I already knew it was a scam. Since when does Department of Legal Affairs have a 347....area code!
Called today at 3:30PM while in another part of the house that has a phone. I heard message being left for me (used MY first name) so I answered. It was a male with a very heavy Asian (Oriental/Chinese) saying his name is "Shawn White" and he was with the US Treasury Department. That's when I cut him off and told him "Oh hell no!!!" and that he "might as well give it up" because I wasn't "falling for his SCAM!!!". He tried telling me that I needed to listen carefully because "this is what's going to happen". I cut him off and told him that I already knew he'd be telling me someone was coming to arrest me and hauling my (butt) off to jail. I told him I knew he was from China and I, and almost everyone else in the United States, are well aware that it's a Treasury/IRS scam being run by the Chinese and also used a few choice words as I told his wimpy sounding little (butt) off. All of I sudden, I just heard "click"...the scamming jerk hung up on me. I can curse and yell like the best of them and I let those words fly right out of my mouth at the scammer. I've had it with these calls, usually don't answer but was tricked into it this time. How in the hell do they get our NAMES??? We have been getting, on average, 10 of these scam/unwanted calls per week. It seems that every 3rd or 4th, we'll get 15 - 20. I keep a log and we've already had 146 of these unwanted calls since January 1, 2015. Anyone else getting that many??? Rant over. I guess I'll wait for the cops to show up and arrest me now.
"Nelson Carter" with the Department Of Legal Affairs (is there really such a Department???) from this number called to say that we paid our taxes late and wrong (IRS rarely uses that lingo...). He had an accent and advised us to get an attorney. We hung up. SCAM SCAM SCAM
Mom woke me up stating there was a very important a call for me. Once I answer the call, the person on the other end told me they were from the department of Treasury and there was a Law Enforcement Action against me. I was very confused and stated I had not received any information prior to this call... The Guy quickly responded saying " you're the first person to say that" an gave me the number of "The person" Who can explain everything to me. The number was 347-6947846. I was to ask for Inspector Jason Brown.
When Jason Brown answered the phone he stated he "this call would be recorded" Read me this whole mombo jumbo leagal thing where supposedly I was going to be arrested because I have not paid the Internal Revenue Services money that is owed. I explained I have paid all dues and have evidence. He stated I was going to get summons and needed to hire a Civil Lawyer since this was a federal case. I said Thank you and Hung up. He didn't ask for payment and or any information other then that, that is public.
I wonder if this is just the beginning.. Is their a part 2 to this call ?
I called my TAX guy he said this is definitely a SCAM.... IRS never ever calls.... its always MAIL Communication !!!!
Ha Ha!! This dude supposedly named "Shawn White" called my house and left a message stating he was with the department of treasury and I needed to call him back immediately. My Wife called him and asked what this was all about. She immediately knew this was a scam when he answered the phone and said "Hello" like she was calling his house or something. He kept on telling her that we owed money to the IRS (which is completely incorrect) and that I was going to get charges filed against me. My Wife kept asking him "and your with the department of treasury" in a very sarcastic way and (wait for it) he lost his cool and yelled "Jesus Christ lady, how many times do I need to [***] tell you that"... She hung up the phone and just busted out laughing. I'm sure he will get busted soon
Received a call today from this number asking for my sister who has not lived at this address for almost 13 years and hasn't gone by her maiden name since she got married 7 years ago. Additionally, I know my sister is very fastidious with her finances so there is no way that a "legal mess" would be the case. If this dude ever calls me again I am hanging up on him.
