I received a call from this number and they said they were from Windows Customer Service Technicians. She said I had picked up numerous virus's from going on the internet and they needed to access my computer to find out what the problem is. She knew my name, address and telephone number. She even gave me the number of the windows id assigned to my computer. She had a heavy Asian accent, of which I could not understand all of what she was saying - so she put her "supervisor" on the line who was almost as difficult to understand. I refused access to my computer and they said unless I did this my computer was going to crash. I have never known Window's for call people in such a manner. I believe it was a scam. I have never reported any errors to Windows.

This is a very common scam these days. Often they will strong arm you by saying you will be disconnected from the internet if you don't agree to allow them access to "clean" your PC. The fact is that "Windows ID number" she gave as proof of their validity is a bold faced lie. The number is common to all copies of Windows. Its only because you have never seen it before that the scammers claim sounds valid.
Their goal is usually to push you to buy a license from them, but it may not stop there. They could also be running a key logger, recording your every key stroke. So if they did convince you to buy via your credit card, they would then have all your info, CC numbers, security code or PIN; basically whatever you had to type they have a recording of and can type it again later without your knowledge.
