"Hi this is (fill in the name) from College Advisors on a recorded line." I have received 27 calls in the past two weeks from them, with a different person calling each day. I have repeatedly told them to stop calling me. I HAVE A PHD. I don't need help getting into college. I'm a damn college professor. They won't stop calling. I have now blocked them and reported them to the FTC. It's getting absurd. They have a recorded line, so they have plenty of proof that I have repeatedly told them to stop calling. Btw, although this is a legitimate service (which makes their repeated telemarketing calls all the more problematic), it's a rip-off. You can get the same information and assistance from people like myself who travel to various high schools--including in the inner city (I live and teach in NYC)--and help students prepare for, apply to, and transition to college. For free.
