I just received a call from this number saying that I owed money to the IRS, and said they had issued a warrant on my arrest. They told me I owed $1,537.66 in back taxes based on a 5 year review of my taxes. They told me that I filed my 2014 taxes incorrectly, and that they had sent me physical mail twice indicating the error, and now a warrant could be issued. If I agreed to settle the matter outside of the courthouse, I could avoid going to jail and the warrant would not be issued. The reason I stayed on the phone for so long was because they didn't ask me for any credit card/debit card/bank account information, which is usually indicative of fraud/scam. They wanted me to go to the closest electronic check place and get a check made out for that amount and then deliver it immediately to the closest IRS office. They transfered me several times. I started the call with Officer Steve Smith (Badge ID: KL 7048316), then was transferred to Officer Rebecca Johnson (Badge ID: KTS16006) and then to Officer Nathan Bensen (Badge ID: CR 369). Things started to sound fishy once they asked me to get into a car and drive to the closest CVS/Walgreens, so I took out my laptop and googled the phone number. Sure enough, 166 people had flagged the phone number. My heart is still racing, so these scammers do a really good job with getting to you via fear. It's very easy to get drawn into the fear and the drama when they use such threatening language, but it is a scam.
This is some shady stuff, let me tell you. This is 100% a scam; do not fall for it. I was told that I owe 5 years of back taxes and that there was a Federal warrant out for my arrest. They told me that the only way to resolve the matter and to get my documentation released was to "come up with the cash." I told them to get bent. If you get a call from these guys, DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR SCAM. Block the number and report it to the IRS.
