Received call at 12:27 p.m. on 8/2/16 Tuesday from a Steve Martin at the U.S. Treasury concerning a 2nd. attempt at enforcement before judge or grand jury.obvious effort made at obscuring indian accent. Repeated 3 times on answering machine before disconnect. Caller I.D. just repeated the phone number twice. Scam. This is my first post . Just wanted to give a heads up on this new scam going around.
A gentleman, for whom English is not his first language, phoned me from this number claiming to be calling on behalf of the United States Treasury Department. He gave a (bogus) IRS rep number and proceeded to tell me that I needed to work with him immediately on paying an outstanding tax balance from 2013, or he was going to initiate legal action. I explained that I knew the call was fraudulent, asked that no one from this number ever call me again, and hung up.
He called back and asked why I had hung up on him! I stated again that I knew the call was fraudulent. He then tried to argue with me and asked me why I believed/knew he was scamming.
I informed him that I was an Accountant...and hung up.
