Got a call from this number today and it was the IRS scam.
The guy was impersonating "Ray Breslin, Senior Investigating Officer, badge number - 841406". Intimidated my wife with a federal tax evasion case. He had our names, prior address, knew the amount of rent we've been paying there. He said that there was an audit, that we did not pay some taxes, that 2 notices were delivered and signed for by someone at our old address, that the arrest warrant was issued. He said we had to file some "D7 form" to update our address and now it's too late.
After a long chat (skilled scammer) he transferred the call to "Susan Allen, badge number 204168" (light Indian accent) who allegedly had the authority to decide something. She listened to the story that we were unaware about any mail from the IRS and have no idea what this is about. She said she could give us a chance to settle - I had to stay on the phone the whole time, not talk to anyone, go to my bank to get $5713 in cash, go buy some "certified vouchers" at a "nationwide store". Some "officers" had to come later with settlement paperwork and "scan" these "vouchers". When they got to the payment part we finally became suspicious and googled their names. I filed complaints with the TIGTA and the FTC as suggested by the IRS.
