He texted me to buy a floor machine off craigslist for $2400. Says he will send a Certified check. We will check it our closely before releasing anything. I figure it's the normal Nigerian scam, but I want the check for wallpaper.
Classic money laundering scam.
They "pay" you more that what you are asking and say to use the extra funds to give to another, to cover shipping or such.
You complete the transaction; Credit card, money order, cashiers check, PayPal, or whatever "money" they send you and then send or give the extra funds to the third party, only to later find out the card was stolen, the check bounced, or the PayPal invoice was fake. The funds you sent, which was your own money, actually went to the scammer.
You are out the funds you sent, plus any fees from the bad transaction, plus you may find yourself criminally liable for passing a bad check.
In response to a craigslist ad for an expensive item this number 347-964-4133 Sent a text saying the following message. i'm interested and i will like to buy it asap,i'm a busy person and due to the distance between us i will not be able to come see it but i will be sending ur payment via Bank certified check.iwill employ the service of my shipper to come for the pick up.i will wait for ur bank to verify and clear the check before pick up.pls get back to me if we have a deal.
Total Scam could smell it from a mile away.
