First - I am having to guess at the full number because only the first 9 digits showed on my cell's caller ID. It's probably a spoofed number anyway, but I think it's important to report here because THIS IS A PHISHING ATTEMPT.
This is the 2nd time I've gotten a call from this number. The first time I didn't answer it; this time I did, thinking it was another "lower your interest rates" call. Instead there was a computer-generated female voice saying a hold had been placed on my Coors Credit Union card (which I don't have, actually) and I would need to reactivate it. I followed a couple of the prompts just to see where it went; when it asked for an account number I hung up.
Thinking I should report this first to the credit union I went to their site, which is www.coorscu.org. Right at the top in a big red box is this message:
"Important Information - Phishing Scam: Members and non-members of Coors Credit Union are receiving or have received phone calls/messages stating that they need to contact the credit union with regards to their accounts. Individuals are asked to contact a number and provide their information. This is a phishing scam. We advise you not to respond to the phone calls/messages or provide any account information as this is likely an attempt at fraud. Privacy is extremely important to us, and we take our obligation to protect the security and privacy of our members very seriously. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you, and if you have any further questions or concerns, please contact us at (303) 279-6414 or (800) 770-6414. Or send us a secure e-mail." I don't know how to report this anywhere else with only 9 digits but since the credit union is obviously aware of it, hopefully they've been in touch with the authorities. If you don't have an account there you'll probably just ignore this; if you do, DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.
