This is the most highly publicized scam in America, and I can't believe people still don't know about it.
IRS Scam:
The IRS does not need to sue anyone. They send you first class letters delivered by the Post Office. Several of them. Ignore those, and they then send certified letters that you need to sign for. Again delivered by the Post Office. Ignore those and they simply freeze your bank accounts and anything else you own. If they can do that, then why would they bother with a court case that might take them years before they get in front of a judge? They also do not bother arresting people for a few thousand dollars for the same reasons I have already given. The IRS does not accept payment in Itunes Cards, Amazon gift cards, or any other type of payment other than cash, check, credit or debit card (from normal everyday citizens).

Got an electronic voice from this number saying to call it back because it is the IRS and they are filing a lawsuit against me for back taxes. I don't owe any back taxes. very disturbing.
Do not answer calls you don't know and never call them back. The IRS will not call you. The IRS won't ask you to pay in i-Tunes cards. The IRS will not wish you "good luck as the situation unfolds". Trust yourself and your instincts - do not let a bully intimidate you by threats that are nothing but hot air. This is a SCAM. Ignore it.
Phishing Scam. I called back as a joke and got a male with foreign accent claiming to be officer John. I guess some people fall for this type of scam. I told him to stop calling.
I just got a call telling me I owed over $5K, they sent certified mail to my former address (which I still own buy haven't lived in for over a year) & said someone was coming to arrest me & take me to jail for 72 hours. Totally bizarre. I contacted my dog walker to make sure my dogs would be OK, just in case.
