The Spanish speaking individual states he represents the IRS and that the Sheriff's office will be contacted within 24 hours if I don't call back immediately.
THE IRS DOES NOT CALL PEOPLE ON THE PHONE. THIS IS FRAUD.
Definitely a scam. Received the same call twice. Each of the 3 times I called back they tried to get information from me. When I refused and tried to get their information, they gave garbled instructions in a very thick Indian accent and hung up. I never gave them my information, and interestingly, their number wasn't accepting my calls after my 3rd call back.
I saved a computerized voicemail telling me to call this number. So, I called back. I spoke with an Indian guy with a thick accent who told me he was with the IRS and he told me that he sent me a letter in January 2015 stating that I was being audited and I owed the IRS money and then he asked me why I had not responded to it. I told him I never received a letter in January. When I told him that this sounded like a scam he told me that he was going to contact my local sheriffs department and file a warrant for my arrest within 24 hours. I replied " Great. Go ahead and call the sheriff!" and then he hung up. Then, I called the IRS scam hotline and reported this number as a scam. I am stunned that the same number just called me back five minutes ago. I did not answer it but they left that computerized voice message again telling me to call them back. I am very tempted to call them back and "play along" like a scared woman and give them all kinds of bogus info. :))))
A man with a thick Indian accent called and said he was Office Michael Thomas of IRS and that if I didn't send money for a tax fraud case, a warrant would be issued for arrest within 36 hours. BOGUS!! I hung up!
