Said, they're calling from the United States government and I won a grant for $9,000 but all I need to do is pay $250 but then they'll reimburse me $9,250 what a scam
Been getting these phone calls for days. when I answered the phone these people knew everything about me such as name, address, phone number. They also asked me how old I was and if I was employed. They told me that I had been qualified for a federal grant for $9,200 all I needed to do was follow there instructions and I would have my money in less that an hour. they gave me several options in which I could receive my mony and they were, western Union, give them my debit card # or my banking information. They gave me "Grant #" and told me to call another phone number area code "206". I never called them back knowing this was a scam. Kept getting calls and today got a call from a different phone this time area code "356", i answered and received the same Finally decided today to call the company back and just see what the had to say, the number is 202-780-8403 (this number shows up as Washington D.C.), for your information. My entire being told me this was a scam and boy was I right....
I was asked how I wanted to receive my money and knowing better that to give out my personal information I told them Western Union. I gave the man on the phone my "code" and the man on the other end told after a lot of talking that I need to go to the nearest store that had a western union such as Wal-Mart and purchase an ITunes card and place $200 on it. He told me he would stay on the phone with me the entire time until i purchased the card, activated the card and gave him some information on the back of that card. I told him I was working and in no way could do this until after 5:00pm. He said he would be expecting my call. They take your money from that card, I'm sure, and leave you with nothing..
I have read on another thread that tied into one of the other numbers that i received a call from and they too were asked to go purchase cards anywhere from $200-$300.
DON'T buy into this, I am a very well educated person and I almost believed them. At first, I actually gave them a pre-paid debit card that I had with a zero balance and guess what....they called and wanted to know what other ways that I would like to receive my money. Thats when I told them I would do the Western Union, I wanted to try and figure out how this scam was working. This is funny, as I was typing this they have called me back again, I thought that I had blocked all numbers. Also beware of incomplete numbers I received several of those when they figured out my card had a zero balance. (ie: +1 (81), +1 (1) 1181, a few other variations of this same type)
Recieved three calls from this number. Their area code is western WA. I was working and away from my phone, so I couldn't pick up. They didn't leave any messages.
This is a scam everyone they want money in order to give you a grant which makes no sense, therefore please do not fall for it. I fell for something like this a while back, sadly I was waiting for a call from a scholarship and they called one time that I had won a scholarship and I thought it had been the call I was waiting for and they asked me to send $200.00 so I can receive and that the money had to be in a money order form. (they are pretty smart at this) when you give the number of the money order they are unable to give that money back to you even if it is stolen. So do not fall for these things. They should not charge you for something that they are giving to you.
I got scam callers for 2 years now for 2 years i had to block so many numbers from all around the world this a-hole is a another crook piece of [***] been calling my home phone like crazy i do not pick it up i know they are going to get blocked my phone company spectrum has a free block system so after 2 years they started a block advantage because this is so crazy all of a sudden i was getting calls from people i do not even know and my number is unlisted i do not know how they got it but know they can burn in hell no matter how many times they call they know my number is blocked but they are so stupid they keep calling back they can call all they want they will get my friend my blocker bye bye nother [***] up your [***],
